🛡️ 4. Privacy Settings & GDPR Compliance
This section is dedicated to the privacy-centric features of the JaJuMa Matomo Analytics extension.
Configuring these settings correctly is crucial for complying with regulations like the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and building trust with your customers.
Navigate to JaJuMa -> Matomo Analytics -> Configuration
and expand the Privacy section.
🔧 4.1 Privacy Configuration
Enable Do Not Track
- Yes: Enables client-side "Do Not Track" (DNT) detection.
If a user has enabled DNT in their browser, the Matomo tracking script will not send any tracking requests. - No (Default): DNT browser settings are ignored.
Why it matters for GDPR:
Respecting a user's explicit DNT preference is a clear signal of transparency and a key part of a privacy-by-design approach, which is encouraged by GDPR.
Disable All Tracking Cookies
- Yes: Prevents Matomo from setting any first-party tracking cookies on the user's browser.
On the next page view, any existing Matomo cookies for the site will be deleted. - No (Default): Matomo will use first-party cookies to track returning visitors.
Why it matters for GDPR:
This is the key setting for enabling cookieless tracking. When no cookies are used, you can still gather valuable analytics without storing personal data on a user's device. In many jurisdictions, this can remove the need for an intrusive cookie consent banner, improving user experience while maintaining compliance.
⚠️ Warning:
If you enable this setting while also using the PHP Tracker for e-commerce, page views and conversions from the same user will be tracked as separate visitors in Matomo, as there is no cookie to link their actions together.
🍪 4.2 Cookie Banner Integration
If you are using tracking cookies (Disable All Tracking Cookies is set to No), GDPR requires you to get explicit consent from users via a cookie banner or consent management platform (CMP). These settings ensure the Matomo tracking script is compatible with your CMP.
💡 Pro Tip:
If you are unsure about these settings, consult the documentation for your specific cookie banner solution.
Script Type
Some CMPs require you to change the type attribute of script tags to prevent them from running before consent is given.
This field allows you to do that.
- Example:
For a script tag like<script type="text/plain"...,
you would entertext/plainin this field.
Additional Attributes
Some CMPs require additional data attributes to be added to script tags for identification and categorization. You can add those attributes here.
- Example:
class="cookiebannerlazyload" data-cookiebanner-vendor="123"or
data-cookiebanner="Matomo Analytics"
