📄 3. General Configuration

After installing the JaJuMa WebP Optimized Images extension and verifying your server requirements, you can proceed with the initial configuration. These settings control the core functionality of the extension.

To access the configuration panel, navigate to the Magento Admin and go to:
JaJuMa > WebP Image Optimization

This section details the general configuration settings for the WebP Optimized Images extension. These settings control the core functionality of the module.

⚙ 3.1 General Configuration Settings

This section contains the primary controls for the extension. See JaJuMa > WebP Image Optimization > General Configuration WebP Optimized Images Extension Menu

3.1.1 Optimize Images

  • What it does: This is the master switch for the entire extension.
    • Yes: Enables the WebP conversion and delivery pipeline. The extension will begin converting images on-the-fly and serving them to compatible browsers.
    • No: Disables all functionality of the extension.
  • Why it matters: Setting this to "Yes" is the first step to activating the performance benefits for your store.

3.1.2 Disable with transparent images

  • What it does: This setting allows you to exclude images containing transparency (typically .png files) from being converted to WebP.
  • Why it matters: While the WebP format fully supports transparency, in very rare edge cases, converting a complex transparent PNG to WebP might result in a slightly larger file size or minor visual artifacts. This option provides a targeted solution for such scenarios.
  • Recommendation: For most stores, it is safe to leave this set to No. Only change this to "Yes" if you specifically observe issues with your transparent images after enabling the extension.

3.1.3 Clear WebP Image Cache

  • What it does: Clicking this button deletes all previously generated WebP images. These images are stored in a dedicated cache located at:

    <magentoroot>/media/jajuma/webp/
  • Why it matters: This is a crucial tool for managing your image assets. The primary reason to use this button is to force the regeneration of all WebP images after you have changed a conversion setting, such as the quality level or the conversion tool itself. New WebP files will be created automatically as visitors browse your site.

⚠️ Warning: Critical Caching Information After clearing the WebP image cache, you must also flush Magento's Full Page Cache (FPC) and any other caching layers you use (like Varnish, Redis, or a third-party CDN).

If you do not flush these other caches, your server may continue to serve the old, cached HTML which still points to the deleted WebP images, resulting in broken images on your storefront. Flushing all caches ensures that your visitors receive the newly generated images.
